Honey Garlic Baked Chicken Thighs
Description
Raw chicken thighs are seasoned with sea salt and coated in a marinade mixing honey, fresh lemon juice, liquid aminos or soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, avocado oil, and black pepper. After preheating the oven to 420°F, the thighs bake in a casserole dish for 20 minutes until reaching an internal temperature of 160°F. The chicken is basted with its marinade, then broiled on high for 8 to 10 minutes to develop a caramelized surface. This cooking method locks in moisture and creates a flavorful coating.
The resulting chicken balances the sweetness of honey with the acidity of lemon and vinegar, while garlic and liquid aminos provide umami depth. The avocado oil enhances the marinade’s richness. The skinless thighs remain juicy and tender, with a sticky glaze after broiling.
This preparation works well as a main dish paired with rice or vegetables. The sauce left in the baking dish is noted as valuable for flavoring subsequent meals. Leftovers keep in the refrigerator up to five days with the marinade.
Ingredients
- 3 lbs chicken thigh 8 thighs, boneless, skinless
- ½ tsp sea salt
- 1 1/2 Tbsp avocado oil
- ⅓ cup honey
- ¼ cup lemon juice fresh
- 1 Tbsp liquid aminos or soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp rice vinegar
- 5 cloves garlic minced
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 420 degrees Fahrenheit and move an oven rack to the shelf that’s third from the top.
- Transfer the raw boneless chicken thighs to a large (13” x 9”) casserole dish, and sprinkle with sea salt.
- Add the avocado oil, honey, lemon juice, liquid aminos (or soy sauce), rice vinegar, garlic, and black pepper (the marinade ingredients) to a small bowl or measuring cup. Mix together until everything is well combined. If your honey isn’t mixing easily, microwave the marinade for 30 seconds, or until everything stirs together easily without any effort.
- Pour the marinade over the chicken thighs and use a spoon to spoon the marinade over the chicken so that everything is well coated. Bake chicken for 20 minutes, or until the thighs reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees F.
- Remove the chicken from the oven and baste it by spooning the marinade over the top of the chicken thighs.
- Place the oven on the High Broil setting and broil the chicken for 8 to 10 minutes, or until it is golden-brown and crispy.
- Serve honey lemon garlic baked chicken thighs with your choice of side dishes and a sprinkle of sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top!
Notes
- Store leftover chicken and sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Keep remaining marinade to add flavor when reheating or in future meals.
