Honey Garlic Freezer Friendly Chicken Marinade

This Honey Garlic Freezer Friendly Chicken Marinade creates a sticky, sweet, and savory coating using honey, garlic, soy sauce, and olive oil. Designed to marinate and freeze with chicken breasts, it simplifies meal prep while imparting robust flavor. The chicken can be baked or pressure cooked after marination or freezing.

Description

The marinade combines soy sauce, olive oil, honey, and minced garlic to produce a balanced blend of sweetness, umami, and pungency. By mixing the ingredients directly in a freezer-safe bag with the chicken breasts, the chicken absorbs flavor during refrigeration or freezing.

The chicken can be thawed overnight before baking at 425°F for 25 minutes, ensuring a cooked-through, caramelized exterior. Alternatively, cooking from frozen in an Instant Pot with added liquid is possible, offering cooking flexibility without thawing.

This marinade supports batch prepping freezer meals and provides a flavorful base that complements the natural taste of chicken breasts without requiring additional seasoning.

Ingredients

Servings

Per 9 oz chicken breast

  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce low sodium, or tamari
  • 1.5 tbsp olive oil or canola oil
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 3 cloves garlic minced

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a heavy duty ziploc freezer bag. Add chicken breast(s) into the back and move it around instead of the bag once closed to coat the chicken in the marinade.

Marinate

  1. If placing in the fridge, marinate 2-4 hours before baking. If freezing, place it into the freezer immediate.

To Bake

  1. Let the chicken thaw in the ziploc bag inside the fridge overnight.
  2. Bake at 425F for 25 minutes.

For the Instant Pot

  1. From frozen: place into the Instant Pot and add 1 cup of water (or broth) and pressure cook for 8-9 minutes (depending on the size of your chicken breast) and then Quick Release when done.
