Honey Garlic Shrimp (蜜汁虾球)

Honey Garlic Shrimp is prepared by marinating shrimp in Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, and cornstarch, then stir-frying with a sauce made of soy sauce and honey. The result is shrimp coated in a sweet and savory glaze with aromatic garlic and ginger. This dish is quick to cook and serves well over steamed rice.

Description

This Honey Garlic Shrimp recipe begins by marinating peeled and deveined shrimp to lightly flavor and tenderize them before cooking. The marinade includes Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, and cornstarch, which helps create a light coating that thickens slightly during cooking. The sauce blends soy sauce with honey to provide a balance of salty and sweet.

The shrimp are stir-fried in butter or vegetable oil with minced garlic and ginger to release fragrance before adding the shrimp themselves. Cooking continues until the shrimp turn golden on both sides. Once the sauce is added, it thickens quickly, glazing the shrimp evenly. Garnishing with optional green onions adds color and freshness.

The resulting dish has tender shrimp with a shiny, sticky coating that complements the mild sweetness of honey and savory soy. It fits well as a main dish served hot with steamed rice, offering a pleasant combination of flavors and textures that highlight the ginger and garlic aroma.
