Honey Maple Glazed Salmon
Description
This recipe starts with salmon fillets seasoned lightly with soy sauce and allowed to marinate briefly at room temperature. Baking in a preheated oven gently cooks the fish until nearly done. A glaze made from honey and maple syrup is then brushed over the salmon before broiling to create a caramelized, slightly crisp surface. The final result is moist salmon with a sweet glaze complemented by the savory soy base.
The combination of honey and maple syrup provides a layered sweetness that browns beautifully under the broiler, while the soy sauce adds a salty depth. The salmon skin side is placed down for better texture and easier handling. Fresh garnishes can be added to deliver contrast and visual appeal.
For best results, thaw frozen salmon completely in the refrigerator before cooking and pat dry to ensure the glaze adheres well. Using foil and nonstick spray simplifies cleanup. Attention to the internal temperature ensures moistness without overcooking. This dish serves well as a main course paired with rice or vegetables.
Ingredients
- 4 salmon about 5-6 ounces each, fillets
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce reduced sodium
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- kosher salt to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
- green onion optional garnish, sliced green onion, toasted sesame seeds, crushed red pepper flakes
- sesame seeds
- crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet or large baking dish with aluminum foil (for easy cleanup) and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Place salmon skin-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Pat dry with paper towels. Brush some of the soy sauce onto each salmon fillet. Let the salmon sit and marinate at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
- Cook the salmon on the top rack of the oven for 10 minutes. While the salmon is in the oven, whisk together the honey and maple syrup in a small bowl. Remove the salmon from the oven and baste with the honey mixture.
- Turn the oven setting to "BROIL" on high. Place the salmon about 4-6 inches from the broiler. Broil for 2-3 more minutes, or until the outside is crispy and the fish flakes easily with a fork. Garnish with green onion, sesame seeds, or crushed red pepper flakes. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Completely thaw frozen salmon overnight in the refrigerator before cooking for even results.
- Pat salmon dry before marinating to help the soy sauce adhere better.
- Line baking sheets with foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Use a small amount of oil or nonstick spray on foil to prevent sticking while maintaining crispy skin.
- Season with salt and pepper after cooking since soy sauce already adds sodium.
- Monitor cooking time closely; the salmon is done when it flakes easily and reaches 145°F internally.
