Honey-Mustard Air Fryer Pork Chops

This recipe for Honey-Mustard Air Fryer Pork Chops uses boneless, center-cut pork chops marinated in a honey and Dijon mustard mixture, coated with panko breadcrumbs, and cooked to a crisp in the air fryer. The result is tender pork with a flavorful, slightly sweet crust that holds moisture, offering a juicy texture contrasted with crunchy panko coating. The air frying method creates a golden crust without deep-frying, appealing for a balanced, textured main dish.

Description

The Honey-Mustard Air Fryer Pork Chops begin by seasoning boneless pork chops lightly with kosher salt, then marinating them in a blend of Dijon mustard and honey for at least four hours to develop flavor and tenderize the meat. After marinating, the pork chops are coated in seasoned panko breadcrumbs, which form a crunchy outer layer during cooking.

The chops cook in an air fryer at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes, being turned halfway and lightly sprayed with oil to promote browning and crispiness without traditional frying. The air fryer ensures the exterior crisps nicely while maintaining a juicy interior. This cooking method results in a satisfying contrast of textures with a balanced honey-mustard sweetness and tender pork inside.

These pork chops can be baked as an alternative if an air fryer is not available, though the air fryer produces a crisper crust. They serve well as a main course paired with vegetables or grains. The recipe discards excess marinade to avoid sogginess and suggests using seasoned panko or a gluten-free substitute as preferred.

Note that some of the panko crumbs may be discarded after coating, which is part of the intended preparation to prevent overly thick crust.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/3 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 4 /4-inch thick pork chops about 5 oz each, center-cut, boneless, trimmed
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup seasoned panko (or gluten free panko*)
  • olive oil spray form

Instructions

  1. Season pork chops on both sides with 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt.
  2. Although they come out much crisper in the air fryer, if you don’t have one you can bake them 425F 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. Combine mustard and honey and marinate the pork chops at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
  4. Place panko in a large shallow bowl.
  5. Leaving whatever mustard that clings to the pork, press into the panko crumbs.
  6. Discard the rest of the marinade (about 2 tbsp tossed).
  7. Lightly spray the basket with oil and transfer the chops, in batches as needed.
  8. Spritz the top with oil and air fry 400F 10 to 12 minutes turning half way, spritzing both sides with oil.

Notes

  • Discard any excess marinade left on the pork chops before coating with panko to prevent sogginess.
  • Use seasoned panko or a gluten-free panko as preferred to suit dietary needs.
  • If you lack an air fryer, you can bake the pork chops at 425°F for 20 to 25 minutes, though the crust will be less crisp.
  • Lightly spraying the pork chops with olive oil spray helps promote even browning and crispiness in the air fryer.
