Honey Turmeric Chicken
Description
In this Honey Turmeric Chicken recipe, the skin-on deboned thighs are combined with minced garlic, honey, oyster sauce, turmeric powder, cayenne pepper, and salt. The marinade coats the chicken well, infusing sweet, savory, and earthy spice notes including the subtle warmth of turmeric and cayenne.
The cooking process uses a heated skillet with neutral oil to sear the chicken on both sides until the skin crisps up and turns a rich golden caramel color. The honey and oyster sauce create a glossy glaze that clings to the skin, enhancing flavor and texture. The chicken remains moist inside due to the thighs' fat content and the quick pan-cooking.
This dish can be served immediately, suitable alongside steamed rice or vegetables to balance the bold glaze. The recipe notes allow flexibility to cook with chicken breast, drumsticks, or wings, and offer baking or grilling alternatives. Baking is recommended at 400°F for about 20 minutes or until slight charring occurs for a roasted flavor.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs deboned but skin-on
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce or soy sauce
- 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tablespoon neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
Instructions
- Add the garlic, honey, oyster sauce, turmeric powder, cayenne pepper, and salt to the chicken, and stir to combine well.
- Heat up a skillet (cast iron preferred) over medium heat and add the oil. Transfer the chicken to the skillet and cook on both sides until golden brown, crispy on the bottom, and nicely glazed and browned on the skin side.
- Remove from the skillet and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute chicken breasts, drumsticks, or wings if preferred.
- The chicken can also be baked at 400°F for approximately 20 minutes until edges are slightly charred.
- Grilling is another option to achieve a smoky flavor and caramelized skin.
