Hot Chocolate Truffles Recipe (Hot Chocolate Bomb)
Description
The recipe melts semi-sweet chocolate chips with cream, sugar, and salt over low heat to form a ganache. After cooling at room temperature for several hours and chilling to a scoopable firmness, the ganache is shaped into tablespoons-sized balls. These are frozen briefly to firm up before rolling them into a smooth round shape.
The rolled truffles are coated with optional toppings such as crushed peppermint candy, cocoa powder, cinnamon, or mini marshmallows, which add flavor accents and texture contrasts. Stored either at room temperature or refrigerated, the truffles keep for up to a week or four weeks, respectively.
To enjoy, the truffles are dropped into hot milk and stirred to melt, creating a fresh, creamy hot chocolate drink. This makes them both a confection and a convenient hot chocolate mix alternative.
