Hot Dog Pasta Recipe
Description
This Hot Dog Pasta Recipe uses butter sautéed onions and garlic as the flavor base before adding pasta, marinara sauce, water, heavy cream, sliced hot dogs, and olives. Cooking under pressure in an Instant Pot quickly melds the ingredients together to a creamy, tender pasta dish without needing separate cooking steps. The rotelle pasta’s shape helps trap some of the sauce, complementing the dense, smoky slices of hot dogs and briny olives.
The creamy sauce created from marinara, cream, and cooking liquid balances the savory, slightly smoky flavor of hot dogs and the aromatic base of onions and garlic. Fresh parsley stirred in at the end adds brightness and herbaceousness. Optional Parmesan cheese can be sprinkled on top to introduce a sharp, salty bite. Cooking in the pot ensures the pasta absorbs flavor uniformly.
Served hot, this pasta works as a practical weeknight meal or casual comfort food. It pairs well with a simple salad or steamed vegetables. The recipe notes advise adjusting water amounts if using a thicker marinara to prevent burning and suggest careful pressure release to maintain texture.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 onion diced, large
- 3 cloves garlic minced OR 1 Tbsp Brazilian Sofrito
- 16 oz short pasta I used rotelle
- 32 oz marinara sauce I used costco brand, jar
- 2.5 cups water
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2x oz hot dogs sliced, package of
- 2 cups olive pitted and sliced
- 1/4 cup parsley finely minced
- Parmesan Cheese optional, to taste
Instructions
- Put your instant pot on saute mode and melt the butter.
- When the butter is melted, add the onions and saute until they are transparent - about a minute.
- Add the garlic, and saute another minute or two.
- Turn off the pot, and add the pasta, the marinara sauce, the water, the cream, the hot dogs, and the olives. Give it all a big stir, and arrange everything so that everything or MOST of everything is covered with liquid.
- Close the pot and turn on manual mode for 6 minutes.
- After 6 minutes, release the pressure manually and carefully. Open the pot. Give everything a big stir, add the parsley, and stir again.
- Serve with more parsley and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese.
Bom Apetite!!
Notes
- Some marinara sauces are thicker; add an extra ½ cup water to avoid burning in the Instant Pot.
- If a burning warning occurs, turn off the pressure cooker, carefully open it, add water, and restart cooking.
