Hot Honey Chicken Thighs

Hot Honey Chicken Thighs are boneless, skinless pieces coated in olive oil and Italian seasoning, pan-seared until golden, then coated with a bubbling mixture of honey and Tabasco sauce. The sweet and spicy glaze thickens over the chicken, creating a sticky, flavorful finish with a balance of heat and sweetness.

Description

Chicken thighs are first seasoned with olive oil and Italian seasoning before being cooked in a skillet on medium heat until both sides develop a browned crust. Cooking in batches prevents overcrowding to ensure even searing. The honey and hot sauce blend is poured over the thighs and heated until it thickens, coating each piece with a glossy, sweet-spicy sauce.

The cooking method produces tender chicken with a caramelized exterior sticky with the hot honey glaze. The balance of honey's sweetness and Tabasco's heat creates a layered flavor profile that enhances the meat without overpowering it.

This dish pairs well with simple sides and can be adjusted by changing the type of hot sauce or the amount used to moderate the heat level.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8-10 chicken thighs boneless, skinless
  • 2 tbsp olive oil divided
  • tbsp Italian seasoning
  • cup honey
  • 3 tbsp Tabasco sauce or hot sauce of choice

Instructions

  1. Coat the chicken thighs with 1 tablespoon olive oil and Italian seasoning.
  2. Combine the honey and tabasco hot sauce and set aside.
  3. On medium heat, heat up your skillet (preferably cast iron, this is the one I use) and add the rest of the olive oil before adding in the chicken thighs, smooth side down and then cook for 5 minutes. Flip and continue to cook for 5 minutes. Do not overcrowd the pan, cook in two batches if necessary. Be sure to add more oil for the second batch.
  4. Pour the hot honey mixture into the pan and let the honey bubble, spooning the hot honey over the top of the thighs. After 5 minutes, the sauce should have thickened and easily coat the chicken.
  5. Serve and enjoy.
