Hot Honey Sweet Potatoes Recipe

These Hot Honey Sweet Potatoes combine tender roasted sweet potato slices with a warm blend of cinnamon and pepper, topped with roasted pecans for crunch and drizzled with a homemade hot honey glaze that adds a spicy-sweet finish. Roasting on a dark baking sheet caramelizes the potatoes for added color and flavor. Fresh thyme adds an herbal note, and the spicy honey made with chili flakes and hot sauce infuses complexity. The dish balances sweetness, spice, and texture as a flavorful side.

Description

The Hot Honey Sweet Potatoes Recipe starts by slicing peeled sweet potatoes into one-inch rounds, tossing them with melted butter, olive oil, salt, black pepper, and cinnamon before spreading them out on a dark baking sheet for roasting. The dark pan helps develop color and caramelization during a 35-minute bake at 425 degrees. Pecans are added in the last 5 to 7 minutes to toast and release their nutty aroma. Meanwhile, a hot honey glaze is prepared by heating honey with chili flakes and hot sauce to infuse the spicy heat, then strained to remove flakes for smoothness.

Once cooked, the roasted sweet potatoes are drizzled with the spicy honey glaze and sprinkled with fresh thyme, combining sweet, spicy, and herbal notes. The result is tender, caramelized potatoes accented with a warming heat and crunchy nuts. This side works well alongside roasted meats or as a standout vegetable dish.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 ½ lb sweet potato peeled and sliced into 1" thick rounds
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup pecans
  • ¼ cup hot honey store-bought or recipe below
  • 1 teaspoon thyme fresh

The Hot Honey

  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Take out your darkest colored baking sheet. (The darker the sheet the more color you'll get on the sweet potatoes.)
  2. Place the sweet potatoes in the middle of the baking sheet and pour the butter, oil, salt, pepper, and cinnamon over the top. Mix well (hands work best for this job) then spread the sweet potatoes out in a single layer.
  3. Roast the sweet potatoes for 35 minutes, or until they are soft and starting to brown on top. Sprinkle the pecans over the top and return the baking sheet to the oven for 5-7 minutes, until the pecans are golden and smell fragrant.
  4. Serve the sweet potatoes drizzled with hot honey and thyme.

Hot Honey

  1. Mix the honey, chili flakes, and hot sauce in a small pan over medium heat. Heat the honey until it just starts to simmer then remove it from the heat and let it infuse for 5 minutes.
  2. Strain the honey through a fine-mesh sieve.
