Ingredients
- 1 lb. crab meat fresh or defrosted
- 1 egg beaten, whole
- ¼ cup mayonnaise light
- 1 ½ tablespoons lemon juice or lime juice
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 onion chopped, small
- 1 green bell pepper chopped finely
- ¼ teaspoon garlic minced
- 1/3 cup breadcrumb or crushed crackers
- 1 teaspoon table salt or Kosher salt
- ½ cup neutral cooking oil olive, canola, peanut, generic cooking oil
- flour as needed
Instructions
- If crab meat is picked, make sure it is free of any shells. Add it to a large bowl.
- Add eggs, mayonnaise, lemon or lime juice and Worcestershire sauce to the crab meat. Combine ingredients well.
- Add the chopped onions, bell pepper, garlic, breadcrumbs and salt to the crab mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine. With clean hands, grab a handful of crab mixture and shape into patties or balls. Lightly dust them with flour.
- Pour the oil into a deep pan and warm it up over medium-high heat. Gently drop the crab patties or balls into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on all sides.
- Remove the fried patties from the pan and onto paper towel to drain the oil. Serve with tartar sauce or desired condiments.
