How to Make Grinch Cookies
Description
This recipe starts with standard Oreo cookies which are coated by dipping in light green melting chocolate. Using melting chocolate, which contains vegetable shortening, avoids the grainy texture that can happen when coloring plain chocolate with food dye. The cookies are dipped and tapped to remove excess coating, creating an even layer over each Oreo.
Once coated, they can be drizzled with additional green or white chocolate for decoration and sprinkled with sanding sugar or cookie embellishments while the chocolate is still tacky. Each cookie is finished with a small red heart for a distinctive accent. The cookies are then left to set either at room temperature or chilled to expedite hardening.
This decorating approach lets the cookies become festive treats suitable for parties or themed celebrations. The simple method of dipping and decorating keeps the cookies approachable yet visually appealing. Using melting chocolate ensures a smooth finish that holds decorations well and provides a creamy contrast to the crunchy Oreo inside.

- Melting chocolate contains vegetable shortening which helps it melt smoothly and hold shape, unlike plain chocolate that tends to seize.
