Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 tsp matcha powder *1
  • ¼ cup water 2, hot

Instructions

  1. Warm your tea bowl up by filling it with hot water and letting it sit for a moment.
  2. Discard the water and wipe the tea bowl with a clean kitchen towel.
  3. Sift the matcha powder of two heaps of a bamboo spoon (or one teaspoon) to the tea bowl.
  4. Heat fresh filtered water to boil.
  5. Transfer the boiled water to a pot lowering the temperature to optimal temperature around 175°F/80°C.
  6. Pour approximately 2 ounces (60-70ml) of hot water into the chawan over the matcha powder.
  7. Hold the handle of the whisk and whisk firmly but gently against the bottom of the bowl while using quick back-and-forth motions to create froth on top of the liquid surface.
  8. Once you've achieved a smooth consistency with froth on top, carefully lift your whisk from the bowl.
  9. Serve with a Japanese wagashi.
