How to Make Pesto
Description
How to Make Pesto focuses on blending fresh basil leaves with garlic and pine nuts to create the classic green sauce. Olive oil is gradually added to achieve a smooth consistency, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese is folded in last for a creamy, slightly salty finish. The result is a gently textured sauce that maintains the brightness of basil and the mild crunch of nuts.
The pesto can be spooned onto cooked pasta, stirred into salads, or served as a dip. Its fresh herbal flavor with nutty and cheesy notes complements many dishes and can be adjusted to personal taste by varying the amount of garlic or cheese.
Ingredients
- 6 cups basil stems removed, fresh leaves
- 1 cup pine nuts toasted for extra flavor if desired
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese freshly grated
Instructions
- Add the basil leaves, garlic cloves, and pine nuts to a food processor and blend until the ingredients are finely minced.
- Slowly add the olive oil and blend until smooth with the food processor on low speed.
- Add the grated parmesan cheese and blend by pulsating a few times until combined.
- Scoop the pesto into a serving bowl and use it on pasta, salad, or as a dip.
