How to Make Powdered Sugar
Description
The process involves placing granulated sugar and a small amount of arrowroot powder or another starch into a high-powered blender. The mixture is blended at high speed for about 30 seconds until the sugar is ground into a fine powder resembling store-bought powdered sugar.
After blending, it's important to let the powdered sugar settle for at least two minutes before opening the blender to prevent a cloud of dust from escaping. The resulting powdered sugar can be transferred to an airtight container for storage and used in recipes that call for confectioners' sugar.
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp arrowroot powder or other starch
Instructions
- Place the sugar and arrowroot powder in a high-powered blender. Add the lid and blend on high for 30 seconds. You may also want to use a towel to cover the top of the blender, to prevent any powder from escaping.
- Turn the blender off and let the powdered sugar settle for at least 2 minutes. Transfer the powdered sugar to an airtight storage container.
