How To Press Tofu Without a Tofu Press

This guide explains how to press extra-firm tofu using household items to remove excess moisture. By wrapping the tofu in towels and applying weight on top, the method helps produce a firmer texture suitable for cooking. The pressing process takes at least 30 minutes, and it can significantly improve tofu's ability to absorb marinades and maintain shape during cooking.

Description

How To Press Tofu Without a Tofu Press shows a straightforward method to eliminate water from a block of extra-firm tofu without specialized equipment. The key is to wrap the tofu tightly in a paper towel and dish towel on a plate with a rim to contain any liquid. Then placing a cutting board on top and weighting it down with canned goods exerts enough pressure to squeeze out moisture gently but effectively. Pressing tofu enhances texture by making it denser and less crumbly, which is helpful for pan frying or baking.

The tofu needs at least 30 minutes under weight to adequately drain any excess water. This method uses common kitchen materials, making it accessible to most home cooks. After pressing, the tofu is ready for marinating or seasoning and will hold up better in recipes.
