Hugo Cocktail (Italian Elderflower and Prosecco Spritz)

The Hugo Cocktail blends St Germain elderflower liqueur with fresh mint leaves, sparkling water, and prosecco to create a refreshing, floral spritz. Served over ice with a lime garnish, it’s a light, aromatic aperitivo balanced between sweetness and effervescence, typical of northern Italian style spritzes.

Description

Starting with fresh mint sprigs muddled or lightly bruised to release their aroma, the cocktail adds elderflower liqueur for floral sweetness. Ice and sparkling water are then added to lighten and dilute the mixture. Prosecco is poured last to preserve its bubbles, creating a sparkling, delicate drink. Optional garnishes include a slice of lime and additional mint to enhance fragrance and presentation.

The Hugo is characterized by its bright, herbal, and subtly sweet flavor with fizzy texture. It is meant to be served chilled and enjoyed as a refreshing pre-meal drink, often accompanied by light snacks.

Variations include adjusting the amounts of liqueur and sparkling water to preferred taste, or replacing alcoholic components with elderflower cordial and sparkling water to make a non-alcoholic version. Lemon can substitute lime if preferred.
