Hunan Beef Recipe

This Hunan Beef recipe features thinly sliced flank steak marinated in soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil, then coated in cornstarch and stir-fried until crispy. A savory sauce with doubanjiang, oyster sauce, and spices coats the beef and sautéed peppers, creating a spicy, textured dish with fresh garlic and ginger notes. It pairs well with rice or noodles as a main course.

Description

The Hunan Beef Recipe begins by marinating sliced flank steak in a mixture of soy sauce, sesame oil, and Shaoxing rice wine to enhance its flavor and tenderness. The beef is then coated with cornstarch mixed with seasoning, giving it a crispy texture when stir-fried in hot oil.

A sauce made from soy sauce, oyster sauce, spicy doubanjiang chili paste, rice wine, sugar, beef broth, and chili flakes is prepared separately. Stir-fried peppers, jalapenos, dried chiles, garlic, and ginger are cooked until tender and aromatic before adding the beef and sauce. The sauce thickens slightly, coating all ingredients evenly.

The dish delivers a balance of savory, spicy, and slightly sweet flavors, with varied textures from tender beef and crisp vegetables. It's commonly served over rice or noodles, providing a satisfying and lively meal.

Feel free to vary the chili peppers according to heat preference and include additional vegetables like carrots or bok choy to customize the dish.
