Iced Hojicha Latte

The Iced Hojicha Latte highlights roasted hojicha tea combined with milk and ice for a refreshing beverage with subtle smoky notes. It can be made using either brewed tea bags or hojicha powder, mixed with milk frothed for texture and topped with optional whipped cream. This drink offers a cool, smooth latte experience featuring the unique roasted flavor of hojicha green tea.

Description

This recipe creates an Iced Hojicha Latte by first preparing a strong hojicha tea infusion. Using either two tea bags steeped in hot water or hojicha powder whisked with hot water ensures a rich tea base. The brewed tea is cooled before assembling the latte.

The latte is built by adding ice to a glass, then pouring the cooled hojicha tea over it. Milk or a non-dairy alternative is frothed separately to create light foam, which tops the iced tea that is then stirred before drinking. The drink balances the smoky, roasted notes of hojicha with creamy, cold milk for a smooth and mild texture.

Optional whipped cream garnish adds richness and indulgence if desired, complementing the tea's flavor.

The recipe keeps the drink unsweetened to emphasize the smoky tea, but sweeteners can be added according to preference.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 hojicha tea tea bags
  • ¼ C water hot

OR

  • 1 teaspoon hōjicha powder sifted
  • 2 tablespoon water hot
  • ½ C milk or non-dairy alternative, of your choice
  • ice
  • Whipped Cream optional

Instructions

Using brewed tea:

  1. Brew strong hojicha tea by adding 2 tea bags into ¼ C hot (just boiled) water. Let it steep for a few minutes and remove tea bags. Let the tea cool a bit.

Using hojicha powder:

  1. Add hojicha powder into 2 tablespoon hot water. Use an electric frother to froth or whisk. Let cool.
  2. In a mason jar, add in the milk and use an electric frother to create some foam.
  3. Add ice to a tall glass. Pour in the cooled hojicha tea. Top of the tea with the milk and foam. Garnish with whipped cream (optional).
  4. Stir and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can sweeten the latte with sugar, syrup, or alternative sweeteners if you prefer a sweeter drink.
  • Both brewed tea bags and hojicha powder methods work; choose based on available ingredients and desired intensity.
  • Use non-dairy milk alternatives to customize creaminess and flavor.
  • Serve immediately after assembly to maintain ice and foam freshness.
