Iced Oatmeal Cookies Recipe
Description
The Iced Oatmeal Cookies Recipe brings together oats, raisins, and walnuts in a spiced batter enriched with butter, shortening, and brown sugar. Ground cinnamon and nutmeg add warm seasonal notes that complement the chewy oats. After mixing, the cookies bake at 350ºF until they develop a light golden color and a set structure with tender centers and slightly crisp edges. Once cooled, a cookie icing thinned with a touch of milk is added, enhancing the sweetness and appearance.
This combination produces cookies with a pleasing mouthfeel—soft and moist inside with a gentle chew from the oats and crunch from the nuts. The raisins provide occasional bursts of fruity sweetness, balancing the spiced dough. These cookies suit casual snacking or dessert and pair nicely with beverages like coffee or tea.
Storing the cookies in an airtight container preserves their texture and flavor for several days, making them suitable for baking ahead or sharing. The icing adds extra sweetness and visual appeal but can be adjusted for consistency with the added milk as needed.
