Instant Pot Brown Basmati Rice
Description
This recipe uses 1 cup of rinsed brown basmati rice combined with 1 cup of water or unsalted chicken stock in an Instant Pot. After sealing the lid and setting the pressure cooker to high for 18 minutes, the rice is allowed to naturally release pressure for 10 minutes before fluffing. The pressure cooking process hydrates the rice evenly, yielding separate and tender grains with a slight chewiness characteristic of brown basmati.
The approach is straightforward and relies on controlling rice-to-water ratio for desired texture, with less water creating firmer rice and more water making it softer. The recipe notes adjusting water amounts based on brand or personal preference, especially since brown rice texture differs by variety.
This brown basmati pairs well with various flavorful main dishes, serving as a wholesome and fibrous carbohydrate component. It's advisable not to overseason the rice since it complements stronger sauces or seasoned proteins. Fluffing the rice after cooking ensures a light texture and prevents clumping.
Leftover rice can be stored in the refrigerator and gently reheated. The recipe invites experimentation with water ratios to find preferred texture, noting that adding ¼ cup extra water softens the rice.
