Instant Pot Jeera Rice
Description
The recipe begins by thoroughly washing basmati rice to remove excess starch, then heating ghee or oil in the Instant Pot to toast cumin seeds and whole spices until aromatic. Adding rice at this stage allows the grains to lightly coat in oil and spices, enhancing flavor and texture. Water and salt are added before sealing the pot and pressure cooking for a short 4-minute cycle with natural pressure release, which helps the rice cook gently and remain separate.
The resulting Jeera Rice is fragrant with the roasted whole spices and cumin, tender yet fluffy. Its subtle seasoning complements rich curries and lentils by balancing spiced, saucy dishes. The recipe’s method offers a hands-off approach while preserving traditional flavors.
Optional garnishing with roasted nuts like cashews adds texture. The notes mention the recipe’s flexibility for doubling quantity without altering cooking times and offer a simplified version excluding whole spices for convenience. Using quality Basmati rice varieties is suggested for the best results.

- The recipe's cooking time remains the same even if quantities are doubled or tripled.
- Handle the rice carefully when adding to hot oil to avoid splattering.
- Roasted nuts such as cashews can be added as garnish to enhance texture.
- Use quality long-grain basmati rice for best aroma and fluffiness.
