Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes use garnet sweet potatoes cut into 1-inch chunks, quickly pressure-cooked to a tender texture. After cooking, the potatoes are mashed with unsalted butter, maple syrup, nutmeg, and seasoned with sea salt, resulting in a creamy and slightly sweet side dish. The method is convenient for a smooth mash without lengthy stovetop simmering.

Description

This recipe for Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes starts by peeling and chopping garnet sweet potatoes into uniform 1-inch pieces for even cooking. They are steamed in a pressure cooker with a steamer basket and water, cooked at high pressure for 8 minutes, then quickly released. This approach softens the potatoes efficiently and evenly.

Once cooked, the sweet potatoes are mashed to a partially smooth consistency. Butter adds richness and creaminess, while maple syrup contributes a natural sweetness balanced by a touch of nutmeg to enhance warmth and depth. Sea salt adjusts the seasoning to taste. The combination yields a well-rounded, creamy mash with subtle flavors.

These mashed sweet potatoes pair well with various meats like flank steaks, pork loins, or duck, making them a versatile side. The recipe’s technique allows faster preparation compared to traditional boiling methods, accommodating quicker meal prep without sacrificing texture.

Using 1-inch chunks creates even cooking and prevents uneven texture. Seasoning with salt after mashing is important to balance the sweet and buttery tastes. The recipe encourages rating and feedback for improvement.
