Instant Pot Sloppy Joes
Description
This Instant Pot Sloppy Joes recipe begins by browning lean ground beef seasoned with salt and pepper in a hot pressure cooker or Instant Pot using the sauté function. Excess juices are drained to avoid a watery sauce. Diced onions are added and cooked briefly until softened, followed by diced bell peppers and minced garlic to enhance flavor depth.
The sauce ingredients including brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, and water are combined with the beef and vegetables. Optional liquid smoke and cayenne provide smoky and spicy notes respectively. The pot is sealed and pressure cooked for a short period, allowing the flavors to blend and thicken.
Once pressure is released, the sloppy joe mixture is typically served hot on toasted burger buns. The filling has a balance between savory, sweet, and tangy, with tender meat and softened vegetables. This recipe yields enough to serve 4 to 8, making it suitable for family meals or casual gatherings.
