  • 8 tablespoons butter see note 2&3, European-style, salted
  • 12 oz cooked ham see note 4, aka Jambon de Paris

Instructions

  1. Cut each baguette in half lengthwise.4 extra crusty French mini baguettes
  2. Cut the butter into thin slices and lay it on both cut sides of the bread. Use a butter knife to spread it out lightly. (see note 3)8 tablespoons European-style salted butter
  3. Divide the ham slices equally over the bottom half of each sandwich.12 oz / 340 g Jambon de Paris
  4. Place the top halves of the bread back on the sandwiches and serve. Or wrap it in parchment paper and plastic wrap and refrigerate it for up to 8 hours.

Notes

  • For authentic texture, use traditional French baguettes with a crunchy crust and soft crumb.
  • European-style salted butter with high fat content improves flavor and spreadability; brands like Kerrygold or Isigny are recommended.
  • Let the butter sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before spreading so it spreads easily.
