JELLO Grapes (TikTok Grapes)
Description
JELLO Grapes (TikTok Grapes) are fresh grapes coated in a thin layer of flavored gelatin over a sweet syrup base. Starting with a simple syrup made from water, granulated sugar, and light corn syrup, the mixture is gently heated until the sugar dissolves and the syrup reduces slightly. After cooling briefly, the grapes are dusted with this syrup and then rolled in various colored gelatin powders to create a shiny, gelatinous exterior. The coating sets quickly on parchment and can be served chilled, frozen, or at room temperature depending on preference.
The texture combines the natural juiciness and softness of grapes with a subtle, slightly firm gelatin layer, offering a playful mouthfeel. The process is gentle and keeps the grape stems off, ensuring clean individual bites that sparkle with color. This treat is suitable for small gatherings or as a visually appealing snack.
Storage options are flexible: refrigerate for a chilled snack, freeze for a frozen treat, or leave at room temperature for a firmer coating. Preparation requires some patience in cooling and setting times but results in an eye-catching and texturally interesting grape snack.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
- 2 cups grapes stems removed and rinsed
- gelatin colored
Instructions
- In a heavy bottom saucepan over low heat, combine water, sugar and corn syrup. Stir until sugar has melted and mixture has reduced, approximately 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool for 10-15 minutes, but not too long or the mixture will start to harden.
- Toss grapes in the simple syrup and then arrange in a single layer on a wire rack. Allow to cool for another 10-15 minutes.
- Place gelatin in bowls or plastic bags, separate bags/bowls for different colors. Spoon gelatin over grapes or shake in the bag until fully covered. Tap off excess gelatin.
- Place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Allow to set for at least 15 minutes, place in the refrigerator or freeze. Store grapes depending on how you enjoyed them- room temperature, the fridge or the freezer.
