Jjapaguri / Chapaguri (Jjapaghetti and Neoguri Combined)
Description
Jjapaguri, also called Chapaguri, combines Jjapaghetti (black bean instant noodles) and Neoguri (spicy seafood udon-style instant noodles) to create a unique, flavorful bowl of noodles. The noodles and dried vegetable flakes from both packets are boiled together for just a few minutes until cooked. After draining most of the water, the sauce packets from both noodles are added along with some of the oil from the Jjapaghetti packet to form a richly flavored sauce with both the sweetness of black bean paste and the heat from Neoguri's spice blend.
The recipe allows adjusting spiciness by varying the Neoguri sauce amount. Adding thinly sliced and lightly seasoned sautéed sirloin, as featured in the film "Parasite," can enhance the dish with tender beef. This noodle combination offers a versatile meal with contrasting flavors and textures from the two noodle types and vegetable flakes.
The dish is straightforward and fast to prepare, making it a satisfying instant noodle upgrade with Korean flavors. It can be served as a main course or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 jjapaghetti (Korean instant black noodles)
- 1 neoguri (Korean instant spicy seafood udon noodles)
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Boil the water in a pot on medium high heat.
- Once the water is boiling, add the Jjapaghetti noodles, Neoguri noodles and dried vegetable flakes from both packets in the pot.
- Boil it until the noodles are cooked, about 2-3 mins. During this time, mix the noodles well by lifting and dropping them a couple of times.
- Drain the water but leave about 6 tbsp worth of water. Then add the whole packet of Jjapaghetti powder soup sauce, 1/3 packet of Neoguri powder soup sauce and olive oil from the Jjapaghetti sauce. Mix them well. (If you want more spiciness, you could increase the amount of Neoguri powder soup sauce.)
- Serve.
Notes
- The noodle portion is approximately 1 cup (250 ml) per serving.
- Vegetables like sweet corn and peas can be added but are not included in the original packets.
- For added protein and to replicate the scene from "Parasite" (2019), sauté about 100g (3.5 ounces) of sirloin or rib eye thinly sliced with black pepper and sea salt, then combine with the noodles before serving.
