Karbanátky

Karbanátky (singular: karbanátek) are delicious fried meat patties that are seasoned with marjoram and caraway seeds. Translated into English, karbanátek means "hamburger" or "meatball".

Ingredients

  • 10 oz. beef , minced
  • 10 oz. pork , minced
  • ½ cup water cold
  • 1 egg , slightly beaten
  • 1 onion finely chopped, large
  • 5 cloves garlic , finely chopped
  • 1 parsley finely chopped, bunch
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • ½ teaspoon marjoram
  • ½ teaspoon caraway seeds ground
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 8 oz. breadcrumbs fine
  • 8 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • salt
  • black pepper freshly ground
  • chive finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Mix the minced meats and the water. Knead well and set aside for 30 minutes.
  2. Add the egg, onion, garlic, parsley, flour, marjoram, caraway, lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of breadcrumbs to the minced meat.
  3. Season with salt, pepper and knead for 10 minutes. Set aside for another 15 minutes.
  4. Shape balls about 2 inches (5cm) in diameter.
  5. Flatten them slightly and roll them in breadcrumbs on all sides.
  6. Heat the oil in a large skillet and fry the karbanátky over medium heat for about 5 to 7 minutes on each side.
  7. Serve the karbanátky immediately, accompanied by mashed potatoes, chopped scallions and fresh vegetables such as green salad and tomato (or others). Sprinkle everything with fresh chives.
