Kit Kat Cookies
Description
Kit Kat Cookies blend a classic cookie base made with flour, cocoa powder, and baking agents with chunks of Kit Kat candy and dark chocolate. The butter and sugars are creamed together, then eggs and vanilla are added before folding in sifted dry ingredients and the chopped chocolates. Although the dough is thick and sticky, it forms sturdy cookie balls that bake evenly to a golden edge. Baking the cookies at 350°F for 8-10 minutes ensures a balance of crispy edges and soft centers with pockets of melted chocolate throughout.
The cookies can be enjoyed on their own or with milk, and make a suitable treat for sharing or gifting thanks to their combination of classic chocolate flavors and the texture added by the candy pieces.
Storing the cookies in an airtight container keeps them fresh up to five days; adding a piece of bread inside the container helps maintain softness. Also, you can vary the recipe by substituting other chocolate candies, tailoring the treat to different tastes.
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder sifted
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup butter softened
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 egg
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 10 Kit Kat candy
- 1 bar dark chocolate 3.5 oz, Ghirardelli brand
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, add softened butter and both white and brown sugars. Beat together until all of the butter is mixed and there are no clumps remaining.
- Beat in eggs one at a time and add vanilla extract. Remove Kit Kats and the chocolate bar from their packaging and chop into small pieces.
- Using a sifter, sift cocoa powder and flour into the mixture. Add the remaining dry ingredients: salt, cornstarch, and baking powder to the batter. Use a hand mixer to combine all ingredients. Note: batter will be sticky and thick. That’s ok!!
- Toss in all of the chopped Kit Kats and chocolate and stir. It’s going to be quite thick.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line or grease a baking sheet. Using a greased cookie scooper (just spray the scoop with cooking spray), scoop cookies into balls and place on the cookie sheet (this recipe makes ~24 cookies so you’ll need two trays or to bake in two batches).
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are golden brown. Remove promptly from the baking sheet and allow them to cool on a wire rack. While they’re still warm, push in a few extra Kit Kat pieces into the tops if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge for up to five days to maintain freshness.
- Including a slice of bread in the cookie container helps keep the cookies soft longer.
- You can swap Kit Kat bars for other chopped chocolate candies like Snickers, Rolos, or Reese's for variety.
