Kool Aid Pie
Description
This Kool Aid Pie starts with a crunchy graham cracker crust created by processing graham crackers and brown sugar into fine crumbs, then mixing in melted butter. The crust is firmly pressed into a pie dish and frozen briefly to set. The filling combines softened cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk, blended with a packet of flavored Kool Aid powder to impart bright color and fruity taste. Whipped topping is folded in gently to lighten the mixture.
Spread evenly over the frozen crust, the pie is refrigerated for at least six hours to firm up. The no-bake filling has a creamy, tangy-sweet flavor with the distinctive fruity Kool Aid note from the powder. The texture is smooth and airy with a contrasting crisp crust.
The pie is served chilled, suitable for warm weather or as a quick dessert option. Garnishes like whipped cream or maraschino cherries complement the flavors and enhance presentation. Flavor variations are easy by using different Kool Aid packets, allowing customization of the pie’s taste and color.
If desired, a pre-made graham cracker crust can be substituted for convenience without changing the texture substantially. Leftovers should be refrigerated and can be kept fresh up to four days.
Ingredients
- 9 graham cracker sheets
- 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
- 7 Tablespoons butter melted
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 14 ounce sweetened condensed milk can
- 1 Kool-Aid powder any flavor, 0.13 oz packet
- 8 ounces whipped topping thawed, frozen
Instructions
- Grease a 9-inch pie dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Break apart the graham crackers and place them in a food processor along with the brown sugar. Process at high speed until the graham crackers are fine crumbs. Gradually pour in the melted butter while the processor runs at low speed and continue mixing until the butter is evenly distributed.
- Pour the crumbs into the prepared pie dish and press them firmly into the base and up the sides. Freeze the crust for 15 minutes.
- Use an electric hand mixer to beat the cream cheese in a large bowl until smooth. Blend in the condensed milk, then add the packet of Kool Aid powder and mix until combined. Gently fold in the whipped topping until everything is well combined.
- Spoon the filling over the frozen pie crust and spread it out evenly with a spatula. Cover the pie with plastic wrap and chill for at least 6 hours, but overnight is better.
- Garnish the pie with whipped cream or cherries, if using, and serve chilled.
Notes
- Switch the Kool Aid packet flavor to create various pie flavors; powdered Kool Aid is required, not liquid drops.
- You can use a pre-made graham cracker crust to save time.
- Light or reduced-fat cream cheese can be substituted for a lighter pie.
- Garnish with whipped cream and maraschino cherries before serving for decoration.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to four days.
