Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls
Description
This recipe starts with a sauce combining staple Korean flavors: soy sauce, brown sugar for sweetness, minced garlic and ginger for aromatic depth, toasted sesame oil, and rice wine. Ground beef cooks quickly in a hot skillet until browned, then simmers briefly with the sauce to absorb its savory and sweet notes. Toasted sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions finish the beef for texture and freshness.
The cooked beef is served over a bed of rice, which may be any type cooked to preference. The dish can be personalized with various optional side ingredients such as sliced avocado, cucumber, radish, steamed or pan-fried vegetables, kimchi, or a fried egg, adding layers of flavor and texture, turning a simple bowl into a more complete meal.
The recipe includes an optional bibimbap-style sauce with gochujang, sesame oil, sugar, and other seasonings that can be drizzled for added heat and complexity. The preparation is straightforward, allowing for quick assembly and flexibility in ingredient choices. Measurements for sauces and side dishes are provided for easy replication.
