Korean Style Sausage Stir Fry
Description
Korean Style Sausage Stir Fry combines bite-sized sausage pieces with crisp bell peppers and onions cooked briefly in neutral oil. The sauce of ketchup, soy sauce, and raw sugar is added mid-cooking, coating the ingredients with a tangy yet mildly sweet finish. The sausages provide a savory, meaty base while the fresh vegetables add texture and brightness.
Cooking begins with lightly frying the sausages until partially done, then incorporating vegetables until just softened but retaining some crunch. Lowering heat before adding the sauce helps the flavors meld without overcooking. The dish is removed from heat after about one minute of sauce cooking to preserve texture.
This stir fry is typically served hot alongside steamed rice and a variety of Korean side dishes, making it a flavorful main or accompaniment in a casual meal setting. The recipe’s simplicity highlights the sausages’ savory taste enhanced by the balanced sauce and fresh vegetables.
Measurements for the sauce are precise, ensuring proper balance of sweetness and umami, and using medium heat supports even cooking and flavor development.
Ingredients
MAIN
- 200 g vienna sausage or cocktail Frankfurt sausage, I actually prefer cocktail Frankfurt sausage for this recipe! *see note above, Korean style
- 70 g bell pepper yellow red or green), julienned
- 40 g onion (julienned)
- Some neutral cooking oil I used rice bran oil, generic cooking oil
SAUCE (MIX THESE IN A BOWL)
- 2 Tbsp tomato sauce (Ketchup)
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp raw sugar
Instructions
- In a heated skillet add some cooking oil and cook the sausage on medium high heat. Stir until the sausage is half cooked (for 1 to 3 mins depending on the sausage).
- Add the bell peppers and onions. Stir and cook until they are wilted (for 1 to 2 mins).
- Reduce the heat to medium heat. Pour in the sauce and mix with the rest of the ingredients (for about 1 min). Remove the skillet from the heat. Serve it with steamed rice and other Korean side dishes.
Notes
- Measure sauce ingredients accurately to maintain the intended sweet and savory balance.
- Use medium to medium-high heat to cook sausages and vegetables, avoiding overcooking.
- Serve immediately with steamed rice and complementary Korean side dishes.
