Lemon Chess Bars

Lemon Chess Bars feature a lemon cake mix crust topped with a creamy lemon filling made from cream cheese, powdered sugar, eggs, butter, and fresh lemon juice and zest. Baking produces a soft, custard-like layer with bright citrus notes on a tender, slightly sweet base. The bars can be dusted with powdered sugar for a balanced finish, making a sweet treat with a pronounced lemon flavor.

Description

This recipe begins by combining lemon cake mix with melted butter and an egg to form the crust, pressed evenly into a baking dish. The filling is a smooth blend of softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, eggs, melted butter, lemon juice, lemon zest, and lemon extract. The cream cheese adds richness while the lemon elements provide tartness and fragrance.

Baked together, the crust bakes through while the filling sets to a soft, custardy consistency with a glossy surface and tender bite. Dusting with powdered sugar after cooling adds an extra touch of sweetness. The bars cut easily once cooled and make a bright, sweet dessert suitable for gatherings or a lemon-flavored snack.
