Lemon Garlic Air Fried French Fries

These lemon garlic air fried French fries are made from russet or Yukon gold potatoes cut into strips and soaked to remove excess starch. Coated evenly with olive oil and a seasoning blend of Italian herbs, lemon pepper, sea salt, and fresh lemon zest and juice, they cook to a crisp exterior with tender centers. The air fryer method delivers a more health-conscious, crispy result compared to traditional frying. The zing from the lemon brightens the savory herb seasoning, making these fries a flavorful side or snack option.

Description

Lemon Garlic Air Fried French Fries begin with russet or Yukon gold potatoes sliced into 1/4-inch strips. After washing and soaking in cold water twice for up to an hour, the fries are thoroughly dried to promote crisping. They are then tossed with olive oil and a seasoning mix containing Italian herb seasoning, lemon pepper, Himalayan sea salt, and fresh lemon zest and juice. Air frying at 400°F ensures the potatoes cook evenly into a golden crisp texture while maintaining a tender interior. The fries are tossed halfway through cooking to crisp all sides effectively.

The combination of garlic herb seasoning with fresh lemon zest and juice offers a bright, savory flavor profile. These fries can be prepared in one batch or multiple batches, with cooked fries kept warm in a low oven until serving. This method is convenient and yields fries that pair well with various dips or as a citrusy side.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 lbs potato russets or Yukon golds are great options!
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Italian herb seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Himalayan sea salt
  • 1 lemon zest and juice

Instructions

  1. Wash potatoes under cold water and scrub with a bristled brush to remove any dirt.
  2. Rinse under cold water.
  3. Slice potatoes into 1/4 inch strips.
  4. Dunk fries in large bowl with cold water and let sit 20 minutes.
  5. Drain water and refill with new cold water, let sit additional 40 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl combine the dry seasonings and whisk.
  7. Drain the potatoes and dry thoroughly between paper towels.
  8. In a large bowl, combine potatoes, oil, and seasonings.
  9. Mix well with your hands to ensure an even coating.
  10. Pre-heat the Air Fryer to 400F.
  11. When ready, dump the fries into an even layer.
  12. Close and set the time for 20 minutes. I personally like more crunch, and set mine at 25 minutes.
  13. Shake halfway through.
  14. The entire batch can be cooked at once.
  15. To do more than one batch, doubling is fine.
  16. Simply keep the cooked fries on a baking sheet in the oven at 225F to remain warm until you're ready to serve.
  17. Serve with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, parsley, and of course ketchup!
