Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp

This Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp dish sautés peeled shrimp in butter infused with garlic and lemon juice, producing tender shrimp with a buttery tang and savory aroma. The quick cooking preserves shrimp’s texture, while fresh parsley garnish adds a touch of brightness. Ideal served over rice or pasta, this recipe balances buttery richness with citrus sharpness and light seasoning.

Description

Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp features shrimp sautéed briefly in garlic-flavored melted butter, which imparts a rich and aromatic base. The addition of fresh lemon juice introduces a bright and tangy note that contrasts with the buttery sauce, creating a balanced flavor. Salt and black pepper are seasoned to taste, elevating the shrimp’s natural sweetness.

Cooking shrimp over medium-high heat for a total of around 4 minutes ensures they are just beginning to turn pink and remain tender without becoming rubbery. Stirring while cooking helps distribute flavors evenly. Adding water along with the remaining butter and lemon juice helps to create a light pan sauce that coats the shrimp well.

The final dish is garnished with freshly chopped parsley to add herbal freshness and color. Serving the shrimp over rice or pasta allows the sauce to be absorbed, making a simple yet satisfying meal.

Additional lemon juice can be added for more pronounced citrus flavor according to preference.

Ingredients

Servings
  • cup butter divided
  • 4 cloves garlic minced, or 1 tablespoon
  • 1 ¾ pounds Shrimp or prawns, peeled and deveined, tails intact
  • 1 pinch kosher salt to taste
  • 1 pinch black pepper to taste, freshly ground
  • 1-2 tablespoons lemon juice juice of half a lemon - add more if desired
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 pinch parsley chopped to garnish, fresh

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  2. Fry shrimp and add salt and pepper, to your taste. Cook 2 minutes on one side, while stirring occasionally. Flip and cook 2 minutes on the other side until JUST beginning to turn pink.
  3. Add in the remaining butter, lemon juice and water. Cook, while stirring, until the butter melts and the shrimp have cooked through (do not over cook them). Take off heat. Taste test, and add more lemon juice, salt or pepper, if needed to suit your tastes.
  4. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve over rice or pasta.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp to keep them tender and juicy.
  • Add more lemon juice for extra brightness if desired.
  • Serve immediately over rice or pasta to enjoy the buttery sauce.
  • Use fresh garlic for a stronger flavor in the butter sauce.
