Description
This cake begins by combining lemon cake mix, melted butter, and eggs to form the base, which is spread evenly in a 9x13 baking dish. A second mixture of softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and eggs is blended separately to create a sweet and creamy topping.
Once layered, the cake is baked at 350°F for 40 to 50 minutes until the top sets and develops a light golden color. Despite the baking time, the cake retains a gooey texture inside, providing a moist and dense consistency with a hint of tart lemon.
The finished cake is allowed to cool before optionally dusting with powdered sugar and then cut into 9 to 12 portions. It pairs well as a dessert or for afternoon snacking, giving a balance of sweetness and creamy tang from the lemon and cream cheese components.
Ingredients
- 15.25 ounce lemon cake mix
- ½ cup butter melted
- 4 egg divided
- 8 ounce cream cheese softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a mixing bowl combine the cake mix, melted butter and 2 eggs.
- Once the cake mix is combined spread it into the bottom of your baking dish.
- In another medium mixing bowl using an electric mixer combine the remaining 2 eggs, cream cheese and 4 cups of powdered sugar.
- Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake layer.
- Bake in your preheated oven for 40-50 minutes until the top is lightly golden. This cake will still be gooey!!
- Let cool and top with powdered sugar if desired.
- Cut into 9 or 12 pieces and serve!
