Lofthouse Sugar Cookies Recipe

Lofthouse Sugar Cookies are soft, tender cookies made from a rich dough of butter, sugar, eggs, sour cream, with vanilla and almond extracts for added flavor. The dough is chilled before being rolled into balls, then gently pressed flat for baking. After cooling, they are topped with creamy vanilla frosting, which is smooth and sweet, often colored for decoration. These cookies have a delicate crumb and a moist texture, characteristic of the Lofthouse style.

Description

The cookie dough is prepared by creaming butter with sugar until fluffy, incorporating eggs one at a time, then adding sour cream and flavor extracts for moisture and depth. Dry ingredients including flour, cornstarch, baking soda, powder, cream of tartar, and salt are sifted and mixed on low speed to preserve the light texture. Chilling the dough for at least an hour firms it up for easier handling and prevents excessive spreading during baking.

Balls of dough are placed on parchment-lined sheets, then pressed gently flat using the bottom of a floured and sprayed glass for uniform thickness. Baking at 375°F for 8-11 minutes produces cookies with soft centers and lightly set edges. After cooling completely, the frosting made by creaming butter with powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream is applied. The frosting is smooth and thick, lending a rich sweetness that complements the cookie base. Food coloring can be added for visual appeal.

These cookies are suitable for celebrations or as a sweet treat, known for their soft texture and creamy frosting topping.
