Lots of Fresh Basil Tomato Sauce
Description
Lots of Fresh Basil Tomato Sauce combines whole peeled canned tomatoes with olive oil, garlic, oregano, and fresh basil to create a vibrant, herb-forward sauce. Added hot pepper flakes provide a warming undertone without overpowering the other flavors. Water is used to adjust consistency during cooking until the sauce thickens.
The sauce is simmered on medium heat to reduce excess liquid, concentrating the tomato and herb flavors. Fresh basil contributes a bright and aromatic note that distinguishes this sauce from tomato-only versions.
The drained, al dente cooked short pasta is tossed in the sauce along with some reserved pasta water to bind the sauce and noodles together. The brief additional cooking time thickens the sauce further, ensuring it clings well to the pasta. Serving with extra fresh basil and grated Parmesan adds fresh herbal and savory accents.
