Magic 7-Layer Cookies

Magic 7-Layer Cookies combine butter, sugars, flour, and several mix-ins including chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut, and nuts to create dense, rich cookies with multiple textures and flavors. The dough is portioned into large balls and baked until just set, resulting in chewy cookies with a variety of sweet and nutty notes.

Description

These cookies begin by creaming softened butter with brown and granulated sugar until fluffy. Eggs and vanilla extract are added for moisture and flavor. Dry ingredients including flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt are folded in to form the dough. Then, a mix of semi-sweet chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, sweetened flaked coconut, and chopped pecans or walnuts is gently folded through to evenly distribute the layers of flavor and texture.

The cookie dough is shaped into two-ounce balls placed widely spaced on a light-colored baking sheet and optionally topped with extra chips and a sprinkle of sea salt flakes before baking at 385 degrees Fahrenheit for 9 to 12 minutes. The result is a cookie with a tender yet chewy center, crunchy edges, and diverse sweet and nutty elements.

These cookies are substantial in size and rich in flavor and texture, suitable for sharing or enjoying as a dessert or indulgent snack. Careful timing during baking is key to avoid overbaking and keep them moist.
