Magic Bars
Description
Magic Bars start with a crust of crushed honey graham crackers combined with melted butter, pressed into a baking dish. Layers of chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, chopped Heath Bar pieces or toffee bits, shredded coconut, and nuts are sprinkled evenly over the crust. The entire assembly is then covered with sweetened condensed milk, which bakes into a creamy, dense binder that holds the layers together.
The bars bake at 350°F for about 30–35 minutes until set and slightly golden on top. After baking, cooling and refrigerating the bars help them firm up, making slicing cleaner and easier. The combination of crunchy crust, melted chips, chewy coconut, and crunchy nuts creates a rich texture and sweet flavor profile.
These bars can be customized using different cookie bases, chips, or nut varieties. They also freeze well for longer storage. Variations include using vegan substitutions for dairy products to adapt for dietary needs.
Ingredients
- 1 leeve honey graham crackers
- 6 Tablespoons butter , melted
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
- 2 (1.4 oz) Heath Bar chopped (or 1 cup toffee bits
- 1 cup coconut shredded
- 1 cup nuts chopped
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- Crust: Crush graham crackers in the sleeve, using a food processor, or rolling pin. Mix with melted butter and pour mixture into a greased 8’’ square baking dish.
- Layer: Sprinkle crust with chocolate chips, then butterscotch chips, chopped heath bars, nuts and coconut. Pour sweetened condensed evenly over the top.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes. Allow to cool before serving. I like to refrigerate them before cutting and serving, so they're easier to handle.
Notes
- Make magic bars 1-2 days ahead and store covered in the refrigerator to improve slicing.
- Freeze bars up to 3 months in freezer-safe containers for extended storage.
- Use crushed Oreo cookies or chocolate graham crackers for a chocolate crust alternative.
- Swap chips for white chocolate, peanut butter, or mint flavors to customize taste.
- For a vegan version, replace butter with vegan butter and substitute sweetened condensed milk with a mixture of sugar dissolved in full-fat coconut milk.
