Magic Cookie Bars
Description
The Magic Cookie Bars begin with a crust made from graham cracker crumbs and melted unsalted butter pressed evenly into a 9x13 pan. A can of sweetened condensed milk is poured over the crust, acting as a sweet binder for the toppings. Semi-sweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips are sprinkled on next, followed by chopped pecans and shredded coconut that contribute crunch and distinct sweetness. The bars are gently pressed down before baking at 350°F for about 25-30 minutes, until the coconut is lightly golden and the top layers are set. Once cooled completely, the bars are cut into squares that hold their shape well.
The combination of flavors from chocolate, butterscotch, nuts, and coconut creates a multi-dimensional sweetness with chewy and crunchy textures. These bars are suitable for dessert, potlucks, or casual snacking.
