Maple Whipped Cream
Description
This recipe uses cold heavy cream beaten with pure maple syrup and vanilla extract or scraped vanilla bean seeds to create a delicately flavored whipped cream. The small amount of salt accentuates the sweetness and roundness of flavors. Whipping first at a medium-low speed helps incorporate air gently, then increasing speed builds volume and the signature soft peak texture.
Maple Whipped Cream's subtle sweetness and vanilla hints make it an elegant accompaniment to pies, cakes, hot beverages like coffee or cocoa, and fresh fruit. Its airy, creamy texture contrasts well with denser or fruit-based desserts.
The recipe makes about two cups, and the cream can be prepared a day ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator without losing volume. The whipping time stays consistent whether made with a standing mixer or by hand, though hand-whipping will take longer.
Ingredients
- 1 cup heavy cream cold
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or ½ vanilla bean (seeds scraped)
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Attach the whisk attachment to a standing mixer*1.
- Add all the ingredients into the bowl.Whisk in medium-low speed until foamy, about 1 minute. Increase the speed to high and whip until soft peaks form, 1-2 minutes.
Notes
- Cold heavy cream whips better; chill bowl and whisk if possible.
- This recipe yields about 2 cups; halve ingredients to make less without changing whipping time.
- Whipping by hand takes longer but works well if no standing mixer is available.
- Maple Whipped Cream can be made a day ahead and stored covered in the fridge.
