Margarita Jello Shots
Description
These Margarita Jello Shots start by blooming unflavored gelatin in limeade, then gently heating until the gelatin fully dissolves. After removing from heat, tequila, triple sec, and agave syrup are stirred in. The liquid is poured into shot cups and chilled until firm. Before serving, rims are dipped in water then coated with a salt and sugar mix to balance sweetness and add texture. Lime slices add a fresh citrus garnish.
The shots offer the tartness of limeade combined with the warmth of tequila and sweetness of agave, making them a festive and playful adult treat. Using a shallow pan or baking sheet helps transport the shots to the refrigerator easily.
For smoother texture, pulp-heavy limeade can be strained beforehand. To help the salt-sugar mixture adhere better, consider dipping rims in light corn syrup instead of water.
Ingredients
- 1¼ cups limeade
- 2 packets gelatin 25 ounces per packet, unflavored
- ½ cup tequila blanco
- 2 tablespoons triple sec
- 1 tablespoon agave syrup
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- lime optional, fresh, slices, for garnish
Instructions
- Place the limeade in a medium pan. Sprinkle the gelatin over the limeade and let it bloom for 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer the pan to the stove and cook on low heat until the limeade is dissolved, about 4-5 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the tequila, triple sec and agave syrup. Pour the liquid evenly between 10 two-ounce shot cups or glasses.
- Transfer the cups to the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours or until set.
- Place the salt and sugar on a plate and stir to combine.
- Dip the rim of a shot cup into water, then place the rim into the salt and sugar mixture.
- Repeat the process with all the Jello shots. Garnish with a small lime slice, then serve.
Notes
- Apply the salt and sugar rim and add lime garnish just before serving for best outcome.
- Place all shot cups on a rimmed baking sheet to move them easily.
- Use a measuring spoon or turkey baster to fill shot cups neatly without spills.
- Strain limeade with heavy pulp to avoid texture issues.
- If salt and sugar mixture won’t stick, try dipping rims in light corn syrup instead of water.
