Marinara Sauce
Description
The Marinara Sauce recipe starts with gently cooking shallots and garlic in olive oil to release their aromas without browning. Adding crushed tomatoes, combined with a touch of balsamic vinegar and a slight sweetness from cane sugar, helps balance the acidity of the tomatoes. Dried oregano and red pepper flakes provide herbal notes and a subtle heat. The sauce simmers slowly to allow the flavors to meld together, producing a smooth and richly flavored tomato sauce.
Its medium-thick texture and layered flavors make it ideal for tossing with pasta, spooning over meatballs, or spreading on pizza dough before baking. The seasoning can be adjusted at the end to suit taste preferences.
This straightforward tomato sauce can be prepared in advance and stored refrigerated, enhancing its flavor after resting. Stir occasionally during simmering to prevent sticking, and adjust seasoning before serving.
