Matcha Mochi with sweetened red beans

This Matcha Mochi combines glutinous rice flour with matcha powder to create a vibrant green, sweet rice dough that is steamed and then kneaded to smoothness. Sweetened red beans are incorporated into the dough, providing bursts of sweetness and a contrasting texture. The mochi is cut into small sections after shaping, resulting in individual chewy pieces with a subtle tea flavor and scattered sweet beans.

Description

Matcha Mochi with Sweetened Red Beans uses sticky rice flour and cornstarch mixed with milk, sugar, and matcha powder to form a smooth batter that is steamed until cooked through. Once cooled slightly, the dough is kneaded by hand to achieve a soft, elastic consistency. Incorporating sweetened red beans evenly throughout adds texture and sweetness to the subtly grassy matcha base. The dough is then shaped into a long log and cut into bite-sized pieces for serving.

The steaming process ensures a chewy, moist texture typical of mochi, while the matcha powder imparts a mild bitterness balanced by the sugary beans. This recipe requires handling the dough with gloves to manage its stickiness during kneading and shaping.

These mochi pieces can be served directly as a snack or dessert, offering a traditional chewy texture paired with the earthiness of matcha and the sweet burst of red beans.
