Melted Snowman Cookies
Description
This recipe transforms sugar cookie dough by adding egg yolk and extra flour to produce a smooth dough that bakes into light brown, tender cookies. The dough is portioned into balls, chilled, and baked to retain shape and provide a sturdy base for decoration. Once cooled, the cookies become the "ground" of a snowy puddle drawn with white icing.
Large marshmallows are decorated with edible markers to create snowman faces with eyes, mouth, and carrot noses. These are placed immediately onto the cookie’s wet white icing to simulate a melted snowman figure. Black and red icing are used to detail the arms, buttons, and scarf, completing the character.
The combination of soft cookie, chewy marshmallow, and colorful icing creates a playful treat that captures a seasonal theme. These cookies are ideal for winter occasions or holiday gatherings, adding a creative and edible decoration element.
Ingredients
- 1 .5 ounce sugar cookie dough or homemade sugar cookies, refrigerated
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 12 large marshmallows
- 1 pouch each cookie icing white, red, and black, Betty Crocker brand
- 2 edible markers black and orange
Instructions
- Place 1 roll sugar cookie dough, 1 egg yolk, and 1/2 cup all-purpose flour in large bowl. Beat with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth.
- Scoop 2-tablespoon-size (12) balls of cookie dough onto cookie sheets covered with silicone baking mats or cooking parchment paper. Refrigerate dough balls 15 minutes. Heat oven to 350°F.
- Bake chilled cookies 12 to 14 minutes or until light brown. Let cool completely before decorating.
- Draw eyes and a mouth on the marshmallows using the black edible marker. Then draw the nose using the orange edible marker. Set aside.
- On cooled cookies, draw a “snow" using the white cookie icing. TIP: Draw the outline of the puddle, then go back and fill in the shape.
- While the icing is still wet, immediately place a marshmallow to one side of the cookie
- Then make the arms and buttons with the black cookie icing and the scarf with the red cookie icing.
Notes
- Chilling the cookie dough balls before baking helps maintain shape and texture when baked.
- Decorate marshmallows with edible markers before applying to the cookie for precise facial features.
- Apply marshmallows to the wet white icing promptly so they adhere well as the icing sets.
