Melted Snowman Cookies

Melted Snowman Cookies feature sugar cookies topped with white royal icing dripped to mimic melting snow, adorned with marshmallow heads, colorful candy buttons, and piped black icing for arms and facial features. This whimsical decoration creates a playful winter-themed treat combining soft, sweet textures with crisp sugar cookie bases.

Description

The cookies start with either store-bought or homemade round sugar cookies, which are frosted with white royal icing generously applied to drip over the edges for a melting snow effect. Marshmallows are placed near the edge of each cookie to represent the snowman’s head, while M&Ms serve as buttons down the body. Black tinted royal icing is piped to form stick-like arms and details for the eyes and mouth, with an orange sprinkle used for the carrot nose fixed on the marshmallow.

After decorating, the cookies are left to set for 20 to 30 minutes allowing the royal icing to harden. The combination of soft marshmallow, firm sugar cookie, and hardened icing creates a distinct texture contrast. These cookies are festive and visually engaging for winter and holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 sugar cookies store-bought or homemade, round
  • 2 1/2 cups royal icing store-bought or homemade
  • 16 marshmallows cut in half if needed
  • 16 orange sprinkles
  • M&Ms different colors
  • black gel food coloring or store bought black icing tube

Instructions

  1. Measure 1/2 cup of royal icing separately and place it in a bowl, use the food coloring gel to dye it black. Add to a piping bag and cut off a very small tip.
  2. Add the remaining icing to a larger piping bag, snipping off a tip.
  3. Next, frost the cookies with white icing, you can allow it to drip over the sides to create the "melted" effect.
  4. Immediately add the marshmallow closer to the edge of the cookie. Use M&Ms to create the buttons, and then pipe black stick arms floating out from the head while the icing is still wet.
  5. Allow the cookies to set for 20-30 minutes before decorating the face with two eyes, and mouth. And use a bit of white icing to attach the orange sprinkle nose.
  6. Enjoy!
