Mexican Burger
Description
This recipe makes two burgers using lean ground beef mixed with an array of Mexican-inspired spices including cumin, ground coriander, paprika, onion and garlic powders, plus chipotle flakes for heat and smoky depth. Fresh cilantro adds brightness to the seasoned meat. After forming patties and refrigerating briefly, the burgers are cooked in olive oil over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
Mature cheddar cheese is melted on top by covering the pan or broiling briefly, adding a sharp, creamy element. The patties are served on buns layered with lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and burger relish, combining fresh and rich textures with the spicy, savory burger.
This burger pairs well with sides like nachos or Mexican spiced coleslaw. Resting the patties in the fridge before cooking helps them hold together. Sauces can be customized, and the recipe can be adapted into a low carb option using lettuce leaves instead of buns.
Ingredients
- 2 burger buns
- 250 g Lean beef mince
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic granules
- 1 teaspoon chipotle flakes
- 10 g cilantro fresh
- 70 g lettuce
- 1 tomato sliced
- 2 tablespoon guacamole
- 20 g cheddar cheese mature
- 2 tablespoon burger relish
- 0.5 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 250 g Lean beef mince, 1 teaspoon Cumin, 1 teaspoon Ground coriander, 1 teaspoon Paprika, 1 teaspoon Onion powder, 1 teaspoon Garlic granules, 1 teaspoon Chipotle flakes and 10 g Fresh coriander (cilantro).
- Form into 2 burger patties and put in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Heat 0.5 tablespoon Olive oil in a griddle pan (or normal frying pan) over a medium heat and cook the burgers for 10 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Top the burgers with 20 g Mature cheddar and either cover with a cloche/lid or put the burgers under a grill (broiler) for 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
- Cut 2 Burger buns open and build the burgers with 70 g Lettuce, 1 Tomato, burger and cheese, 2 tablespoon Guacamole and 2 tablespoon Burger relish.
Notes
- Chilling the patties for 30 minutes before cooking helps them maintain shape.
- Serve alongside nachos and Mexican spiced coleslaw for a full meal.
- Customize the burger sauce or try habanero chutney for heat.
- For a low-carb version, substitute burger buns with large lettuce leaves.
