Mexican Hot Chocolate

Mexican Hot Chocolate is a creamy, spiced warm drink made by melting Mexican chocolate into a blend of milk and evaporated milk with a touch of cinnamon. This smooth beverage offers both sweetness and warmth, perfect for chilly days or festive treats.

Description

This recipe relies on authentic Mexican chocolate tablets combined with milk and evaporated milk, which enrich the texture and deepen the flavor. As the chocolate melts, cinnamon powder is added to provide a subtle spice that complements the cocoa's sweetness.

The drink is simmered gently and continuously stirred to ensure a silky consistency. Traditional whisking tools like a molinillo or a whisk help to create a smooth, well-incorporated mixture.

Mexican Hot Chocolate serves as a comforting beverage on its own or alongside traditional pastries such as pan dulce or churros, enhancing the drinking experience with cultural authenticity.

Care should be taken to monitor the pot to prevent boiling over during cooking. No added sugar is necessary because the Mexican chocolate is pre-sweetened.
