Michelada Recipe - Spicy Mexican Beer and Tomato Juice Cocktail
Description
This Michelada recipe creates a flavorful beer cocktail combining common Mexican lagers like Corona or Modelo with tomato-based juice such as Clamato. The mixture is enhanced by freshly squeezed lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, soy or Maggi sauce, and hot sauce, producing a layered flavor profile that is spicy, sour, and umami-rich. The cocktail is prepared by rimming the glass with a mixture of chili powder (or Tajin) and salt, which adds a spicy and salty accent with each sip.
The ingredients are combined over ice in the prepared glasses and gently stirred. The carbonation from the beer adds a crisp texture and lightness to the drink. The balance of heat from the hot sauce and chili powder and acidity from the lime makes it a refreshing option for warm weather or when a savory cocktail is desired.
This Michelada can be adjusted in spiciness by modifying the amount and type of hot sauce used, allowing for a milder or more intense heat level. Serving with lime wedges as garnish emphasizes the fresh citrus element.
The notes recommend that the Michelada ingredients can be poured separately, letting guests mix to their preferred taste, and confirm that tomato or Clamato juice may be used interchangeably. The final heat factor is medium but easily customized.
